Black cab insurance may soon have to change its name to ‘green taxi insurance’, as black cabs turn all eco, but will this mean more expense or less for drivers? Eco City Vehicles are going to start trials later this year in the capital, with the introduction of Mercedes Electric eVito taxi which is a zero emissions version of the traditional black cab.

The eco cab was launched two years ago, and has since taken a 30 per cent share of all new taxis licensed in London. Taxi Insurance has and will be introduced by various companies to favour eco transport, and the expected launch of an electric taxi will add another force to Eco City and Manganese Bronze which is the dominant black cab in London.

The Mercedes Vito taxi boasts a slick look and patented rear-wheel steering. It will have a top speed of 75 miles per hour and should be able to travel 120 miles before needing to be charged up, like any other electronic device. It is unlikely to appear on London’s roads for public use until at least next year. Trials are expected to take a year, although part of the process will involve testing the taxi’s ability to navigate the streets of London.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has pledged for a cleaner London and these new taxis will go a long way in contributing to his goal. Greener taxi’s shouldn’t cost more than normal cabs to insure, indeed tax is expected to be lower because of reduced emissions, but insurance, if anything will be lower, depending on the safety of the car, the area you will be driving in and estimated mileage.

The futures priesthood that ‘informs’ gold-stock investors often takes events out of context and disseminates half truths intended to sway sentiment.
